Delphi, Greenpeace, Sinopharm, Tesco, Bosch, Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group and their service partners winners of the 2011 CHaINA Awards

The Global Supply Chain Council, Asia’s leading professional organization in supply chain, announced the winners of its 2011 CHaINA Awards, last Thursday in Shanghai.

For the 6th year in a row, the Council presented its CHaINA Awards to recognize and honour the most outstanding achievements and innovative models in supply chain management all across Asia.

Hosted by Master of Ceremony Curt Mabry, the awards ceremony gathered over 200 senior executives who gave a standing ovation to seven brilliant winners at the prestigious CHaINA Awards at the Intercontinental Shanghai Puxi on November 3rd.

While other awards tend to focus on logistic providers and shipping lines, the CHaINA Awards are aimed to recognize and applaud leading manufacturers, retailers and brand owners. Some of the nominations were jointly submitted between the end-users and their partners.

The selection process is completely sponsorship-free and is realized by an independent board of senior professionals and advisors to the Council. For the second time, the Council decided to give voice to its extensive community via an online public voting resulting in an astonishing 2,000 completed votes casted and over 6,000 unique visitors.

The Best IT Supply Chain Solution Award was given to Sinopharm and their partner Manhattan Associates. Manhattan boosted the Sinopharm supply chain performance by centralized procurement which not only enhanced Sinopharm’s core business competitiveness but made the company known for its smooth operations within China’s logistics and distribution industry and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Bosch Supply Chain Academy won the Award for Training Education and Development. The Academy was established in mid 2008 in order to have a standardized competence management across Bosch supply chain field worldwide. It forms an integral part of Bosch Corporate Purchasing and Logistics and is responsible for defining Competence Matrices (CptM) in Purchasing and Logistics fields in Bosch worldwide and to offer the tailor-made training modules to close the competence gaps of supply chain associates.

The Green Supply Chain Award acknowledged Tesco for its Jiashan Green Logistics Centre. The Centre is built to the Tesco design standard but adapted to comply with Chinese regulations particularly the fire bureau requirements limiting the chamber sizes and fire corridors. This design has been refined over many years experience in UK, Europe and Asia to provide long life, low maintenance and operational efficiency at the lowest cost. As a result the carbon emissions are at least 35% less than a warehouse built to local standards.

The Award for Best Supply Chain Consulting Partner went to Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) and their partner IBM. With the help of IBM consultants, XCMG strategic procurement platform was put into use in August 2011. IBM’s information system designing allows XCMG’s sub-companies quickly access tothe new centralized procurement platform. IBM also helps to break the existing fragmented supplier KPI assessment, and establish group level KPI assessment, which greatly reduce the potential procurement risks.

This year introduced the first Editor’s Choice and Shipper’s Choice Awards. Editor’s Choice awarded Greenpeace for their informative role for the CHaINA Magazine. Shipper’s Choice Award for the Best 3PL went to CEVA Logistics for their designs and implements of industry leading solutions for large and medium-size national and multinational companies.

Winner of the top award, Supply Chain Operational Excellence, was Delphi. The companywas awarded for their new MRS scheduling process which enables Delphi China Plants to have full visibility of the inventory in transit. With the improved visibility, material planners’ workload has been significantly reduced and this also enables the logistics team to address exception variation in a more proactive manner.

The awards ceremony took place during CHaINA ’11 Live, one of Asia’s Largest Supply Chain, Logistics and Procurement Event. CHaINA’11 Live attracted this year over 350 Delegates from well-known companies all around the world, 23 different themed streams to tackle the hottest challenges in SCM, over 80 speakers and chairpersons from world leading companies and an exhibition space with vendors providing the latest solutions on the market.
